| Exchanges of personal property, such as aircraft or business equipment, can qualify for 1031 treatment. Generally, both the Relinquished and Replacement Properties must be classified in the same General Asset Class or within identical Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) sectors. For example, an airplane must be exchanged for another airplane, or a piece of manufacturing equipment, such as a printing press, must be exchanged for similar equipment. |
